Mustangs News · Update To YMCA Soccer

UPDATE:  We have about 80 GHI kids signed up for Y Spring soccer as of Wednesday 2/19.  If you want to join the fun, please get your kids signed up soon so we can minimize the last minute rush.

In any case, register by 2/29 to avoid late charges.
Great Hearts teams are now forming for Spring soccer in the YMCA recreational league.

The teams are CO-ED and (NEW THIS SEASON!) ALL-GIRLS.

There are five age groups:

3/4YO (Pre-K, aka Small Fries, intended for younger siblings of GH students)

5/6YO (K & 1st, aka 6U)

7/8YO (2nd & 3rd, aka 8U)

9/10YO (4th & 5th, aka 10U)

11/12YO (6th & 7th, aka 12U)

The season is March 7 to May 2 (assuming no rainouts), with a bye week at Spring Break. The season is 8 games, all played on Saturdays at fields at or near the Irving YMCA.  Practices will be Wednesday or Thursday evenings, ~5:30 to ~7pm, unless the team decides otherwise, and will start the week of March 2.

Practices will again be at North Lake College. There is a $10/kid practice field rental fee, which is SEPARATE from the YMCA fee, to be paid via your team’s coach after the season starts.

You can register online and pay by credit card at the YMCA website:

Alternatively, you can go in person to the YMCA, fill out the registration form and pay with cash, check, or credit card.

When registering, take **PARTICULAR CARE** to specify the school as **GREAT HEARTS**, and to specify the **CORRECT** shirt size.

Last season we had ~120 GHI kids participating, and expect the same or more this season.  Hence, WE ARE LOOKING FOR VOLUNTEER COACHES!

Note: While Great Hearts supports & encourages sports participation in the YMCA leagues, in the end this is not a Great Hearts activity, but rather a YMCA activity. Since the kids like to play on teams with their friends, we set up Great Hearts teams, coached by volunteer Great Hearts parents, but that is not 100% guaranteed – unless you are a VOLUNTEER COACH!

Brad Bell has volunteered to serve as a liaison between the Great Hearts community and the YMCA to help in organizing the soccer teams and to help ensure the best possible experience.  Feel free to contact Mr. Bell for any questions. He can be reached by phone/text at 972-655-4123 or by email at
